The International Programmes Office of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with the EducationUSA hosted by ACE Consult in Kumasi has held a day’s Free Study in the United States with Scholarship programme.
The event, the first of its kind, according to Professor Rexford Assasie Oppong, Dean of the IPO, was initiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, through his outfit. He stated that the IPO seeks to expose students to make all academic avenues and opportunities available for students to upgrade themselves after graduating from KNUST he added.

Professor Assasie Oppong noted that the University has agreements with a number of international universities that are willing to assist students from KNUST financially to pursue graduate studies.
He continued that fortunately, the government of the United States of America (USA) officially has its EducationUSA Centre here in Kumasi at the ACE Consult, which is the only Centre aside one at the United States Embassy in Accra.
KNUST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EducationUSA Kumasi and has charged the Centre to prepare all students for graduate studies in the United States. The plan is to guide and prepare students for the application process, financial assistance and to write standardized tests.
In her presentation, Mrs. Marilyn Owusu, Chief Executive Officer of ACE Consult, said her outfit is partnering the University to ensure that every KNUST student receives the necessary preparation and support to ensure a successful application for a scholarship.

She said the USA has over 7,000 universities offering about 2.5 million graduates students education. Mrs. Owusu further said the USA boast of quality education, accredited institutions, best faculty, infraustructure and facilities considered the best in the world. It was therefore not surprising that management of KNUST and the IPO is embarking on the programme.
Mrs. Owusu took time to explain the admission procedures, requirements ,standardized tests such as the Graduate Record Examinations(GRE), Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL) and the Graduate Management Admissions Test(GMAT). She also took students through the visa application process, among others.
She revealed that as part of the agreements, the IPO is registering students for classes to sit for standardized tests, workshops and other events aimed at helping students to earn free scholarships to study in the USA.
